Frequently asked questions about therapy at Reprocess Traumatic Stress Clinic
What types of therapy are offered?
The therapies we offer all have research evidence of their effectiveness in treating PTSD and complex traumatic stress issues in clinical trials. Trauma-focused CBT and EMDR therapy are the recommended treatments for PTSD and phase-based approaches such as STAIR are recommended for some complex traumatic stress difficulties.
Trauma-Focused CBT
Trauma-Focused CBT helps clients process traumatic memories, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and build coping skills, reducing distress while promoting emotional regulation, resilience, and healthier thinking patterns.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy
Prolonged Exposure therapy gradually and safely confronts trauma reminders, reducing avoidance and fear, helping the brain relearn safety, and restoring daily functioning and confidence.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy uses guided eye movements or bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, decreasing their intensity and allowing healthier beliefs and emotional relief to emerge.
Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR)
STAIR is a structured therapy that strengthens emotion regulation and relationship skills, helping trauma survivors build self-understanding, manage feelings, and develop safer, more fulfilling interpersonal connections.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions needed will vary depending on the agreed therapy approach.
Clinical guidelines recommend 8-12 sessions for PTSD, however for complex traumatic stress more sessions are typically necessary (often involving more preparation and skills building prior to trauma-focused work).
Usually we offer an initial assessment appointment to get a good understanding of your current difficulties, past life events, and therapy goals. A plan for therapy will agreed upon in this appointment.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes, we are able to offer appointments either in person at our Noosa Junction offices, or over telehealth where needed.
How much does therapy cost?
Fees are $250 per 50 minute session.
